First XI record second win of the season.

Hinckley Amateurs 1st XI vs Ibstock 2nd XI 3.5.08

Amateurs Winning Start to the Season Continues.

On a rain effected wicket the home side won a crucial toss and put Ibstock in to bat. An early break through never looked far away as the Ibstock openers looked uncomfortable on the damp sticky wicket. Matt Lester struck first with two wickets in as many balls in the seventh over. From then on the Amateurs attack used the conditions to their advantage fully. Lee Rastall 4 wkts for 20 off 11 and David Grove 3 for 6 off 6 overs bowled Ibstock out for 79 off 35 overs.

Hinckley Amateurs innings started badly with the fall of Skipper James Lester in the second over. The inform Stuart Bailey came to the crease and with Steve Lawrence showed how it should be done knocking off the total in 22.2 overs for the loss of just one wicket. Bailey with 41 not out and Lawrence 30 not out. Amateurs Captain was delighted with the result. “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, it’s nice to get wins under our belts home and away.”

  1. Can’t believe Raz’s drop catch wasnt mentioned lol Moment of the season so far !!!

  2. Tell us more about the dropped catch!

Pots – what on earth is your avatar about?

  3. Oh, mine looks silly now – Stu – what’s going on?

  4. Ah, that’s better now!

    What about the catch?

  5. I couldn’t put a note in the report about the dropped catch that would have been a bit … tabloid.

So here goes. “Snowman produced yet another almost unplayable delivery that seemed to dip and swerve and generally confuse the batsman. A top edge from a not too clever sweep shot attempt followed and headed in the direction of Mr Rastall fielding at 45 ish. In a galant effort coming forward and then back peddalling, arms aloft ready to pouch the ball the ground seemed to disapear from beneath his feet. The end result was the ball on the floor, Raz on the floor and blood flowing from his bottom lip having made contact with the ball somewhere in between.”

Raz’s safe hands returned later in the innings to take a nice catch at mid off, thus making sure that the drop was a rare one off.

  6. p.s. Raz will still claim that he fell down a hole in the ground!!

Realistically he tripped up his own feet whilst back peddalling! The only reason the ground dissappeared from beneath his feet was because he was lying horizontal to the floor!! Brilliant. Snowman enjoyed it too!! :-)
