Hinckley Amateurs vs Cosby 17/05/08Amateurs Winning Ways Continue.

On a damp overcast afternoon and winning the toss there was only one thing for the Skipper to do, put Cosby into bat. This was the right decision and from the start the Amateurs bowling attack got stuck in and used the conditions well. Matt Lester taking the first wicket and Lee Rastall following suit shortly after with a plum LBW. Both bowlers were economical and bowled decent line and length throughout their spells and kept the Cosby batsmen from making any serious movement to the scoreboard. Lester finishing his spell of 9 overs 2 wickets for 18 runs and Rastall just 11 runs from 10 overs for 2 wickets. A change at both ends saw Matt Hughes unlucky not to be amongst the wickets with 6 overs for 13 runs, while Mike Snow at the other end got the key breakthrough of Sampson for 37. With a four wicket haul for just 16 runs off 10 overs Snow has continued his excellent form along with the rest of the Amateurs bowlers. With a few chances missed and that final wicket elusive for Amateurs, Cosby managed to finish there 45 overs 101 for 9.

After the tea interval Richard Stanford (making his first team debut for this season) and Lee Martin set about chasing down the under par score. Stanford was bowled for 8 bringing Stephen Lawrence to the crease, the run rate kept steady until the 11th over when Lawrence was caught off the bowling of Matt Hurst for 9. Stewart Kendrick made his intentions clear looking to attack the Cosby bowlers right from the start of his innings. The total was reached in just 21.1 overs. Kendrick with his second half century in as many weeks completing the innings not out, also another impressive performance at the top of the order for Lee Martin with 28 not out. Skipper Lester was delighted with the victory. ” I think everyone is enjoying their cricket and performing well as a team, the atmosphere is great and if it stays that way we’ll have an excellent season.”
