Hinckley Amateur vs Kirby Muxloe 24/5/08
On a breezy afternoon the coin was tossed and Kirby Muxloe asked the home side to bat. Little did they know of the drama to unfold later in the day. A steady partnership from Steve Lawrence and Richard Stanford was a good start but both were back in the pavillion by the 10th over. The Amateurs middle order increased the run rate, with Bailey (20) Kendrick (19) and Lester (20) unfortunately the wickets also fell at regular intervals. Mike Snow joined Dave Grove at the crease and the pair produced some excellent batting, rotating the strike and hitting big boundaries. Snow was caught for 34 while Grove continued his great form with his second half century of the season, caught on the last but one ball of the innings. Hinckley Amateur finishing with a total of 194 all out from 44.5 overs.
Kirby Muxloe started their innings with intent but an early breakthrough from Rastall slowed the rate slightly. Opener Wain continued to score well but the introduction of Simon Woodward to the attack made the difference for Amateurs. With the important wicket of Wain for an unbeaten 60 Woodward bowled an impressive spell of 8 overs for 32 runs taking 4 wickets. Batting down the order Kirby Skippper, Hanney, steered the away sides innings towards the Amateur total scoring 43. It looked like they would reach it comfortably. A tight spell from Snow and the re-introduction of Matt Lester to the attack brought the game closer. With overs running out for Amateurs it seemed that Kirby Muxloe would eventually reach the total. In the 43rd over with one wicket required for Amateurs and only three runs needed for Kirby Muxloe, a mix-up with a run for two saw the Kirby batsmen try for the third. Only a sharp piece of fielding and a pin-point throw from Stu Bailey enabled Matt Lester to calmly remove the bails. The game, enjoyed by all, finished in a rare tie with Kirby Muxloe 194 all out off 42.3 overs.
